Haltom City was incorporated in 1949, originally called Birdville. It gradually expanded to include Oak Knoll, Garden of Eden, East Ridge, Meadow Oaks, and in 1955 also incorporated those portions of Birdville previously unincorporated. Haltom City was the first city in Tarrant County and was the county seat prior to Fort Worth.
